Joe Reda
"Coach" - Founder/Partner
Joe began his investment career in 1994, as a High Net Worth Broker in the Private Client Group at Oppenheimer. In 1996, he joined Legg Mason as an SVP in its Private Client Group. He returned to CIBC Oppenheimer from 1998 to 2002, serving as an SVP in the Middle Markets Group covering hedge funds. Joe founded the Special Equities Group (SEG) at C.E. Unterberg, Towbin in 2002 where he was also Head of Unterberg’s Institutional Sales force. After 6 years at Unterberg, he and several members of his team joined Chardan in 2008 to launch and lead the firm’s PIPEs division until 2019. Joe played wide receiver for the 1993 Ivy League Championship football team at the University of Pennsylvania, while earning a BS in Economics with a concentration in Finance from the Wharton School of Business.
Jonathan L. Schechter
"Shex" - Partner
Beginning in 1999, Jon worked as a corporate associate for Bryan Cave LLP specializing in representing investors and investment banks in PIPE transactions. He also represented and advised numerous public companies in all aspects of corporate law. From 2005 until 2007 he acted as the General Counsel for a hedge fund that specialized in PIPE transactions and structured products. From 2008 until 2019, Jon served as a Director of Investment Banking at Chardan Capital Markets, a full-service investment bank. Jon currently serves on the Board of Directors of Synaptogenix (OTCBB: SNPX) and has sat on the Board of other public companies throughout his career. Jon graduated from Duke University in 1995, cum laude, with an AB in political science and graduated from Fordham Law School with a JD and is licensed to practice in the State of New York.
James McIlree
"Doc" – Director Capital Markets
McIlree has over 30-years experience as an investment professional. For the past two decades McIlree has focused on the small-cap/micro-cap market in the TMT, Industrials, and Consumer sectors. During this span he has served as Director of Research and Head of the Investment Policy Committee, has been recognized multiple times by the Wall Street Journal in its Best of the Street Ranking and earning’s estimate accuracy by the Financial Times. He was part of team that built an institutional research, sales and capital markets business and navigated a firm’s entry into institutional research. McIlree earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Chicago, a Master in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and is a CFA charter holder.
Linda Mackay
"Linda" - Senior VP – Corporate Client Services
Linda began her career in 1997 as a Sales Assistant at CIBC Oppenheimer. She supported the top producing broker in the branch by managing and reconciling accounts, researching and analyzing prospective investment opportunities and created sales ideas based on research materials and meetings with top management companies. In 2003, Linda joined C.E. Unterberg, Towbin working in Institutional Sales for The Special Equities Group. In 2008, she and several members of her team joined Chardan to expand the firm’s practice in the PIPEs space. Linda graduated from Pace University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. She currently holds licenses from the Series 7 and 63.
Tyler Berry
"Ty" - Senior VP - Capital Markets
Tyler began his career in 2009 on the floor of the NYSE at Advanced Equities Service Corp. He then joined the Special Equities Group (SEG) in 2010, where he has continued to build strategic relationships with family offices, institutions and corporate clients. His efforts provide SEGs client base with potential fund raising options, capital markets advisory and corporate client services. Tyler graduated in 2009 from Trinity College (Hartford, CT) where he was Captain and Defensive Player of the year for the undefeated NESCAC Championship Football Team.
Michael Scrobe
"Scrobe" - VP - Capital Markets
Michael began his career with the Special Equities Group “SEG” in the fall of 2017. He helps the team with business development by building and maintaining relationships with institutional and corporate clients.Michael graduated from Loyola University Maryland in May of 2017 where he majored in Finance. Prior to his graduation, he interned with SEG for 2 summers.
